One of the town's earliest enterprises was a traprock quarry.  The history of the quarry is connected to the trolley. One of the quarry's chief customers was the city of Hartford where gravel was spread on the streets to keep horses from sinking in the mud.  The trolley siding at the quarry made it possible to transport gravel quickly and easily to the city.
