It has been a busy summer and fall with plans for the renovation/construction at Har-Bur/LSM complex progressing through various stages. We have completed the schematic design phase and the design development phase.
The project budget remains at the referendum approved $45,025,000. The plans for the project were modified in August 2004 to respond to rising cost estimates for steel and other materials. Instructional space was maintained and some items were placed on an add-alternate list for consideration at the time of bidding.
The timeline for the beginning of construction is still anticipated as on or about March 15, 2005 with a 30-month construction schedule. Phasing of the project is now underway.
The detail design stage has been completed. The architects are presently meeting with building representatives to review design elements such as cabinetry, lighting and electrical outlets. Layouts of the science rooms, art rooms, cafeterias, music and auditorium will take up the majority of the conversations.
A presentation to Planning and Zoning Commission is planned for the week of October 11th. The first meeting with Inland Wetland Commission has taken place.
Septic and grading plans have been finalized.
Submissions to other local and state agencies have been ongoing.
Planning for 5th grade program has been on-going with presentations being readied for budget consideration in January.
The Board of Education is pursuing a connection to the new water supply system coming down Route 4. We intend to have this incorporated into the project design.
A theater committee has been formed to coordinate efforts related to the new auditorium and the theater program at the high school.
Plans for submission to the state for Phase 1 will be ready by mid-November.
The next meeting of the building committee is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 9am in the Superintendent's Conference Room. The next meeting of the Board of Education is Monday, October 25 at 7:30pm in the Learning Center.
