“ Just Read”
| Many parents have asked us, “How can I help my child with reading?” “Are there any books that you can suggest?” “What are some writing activities we can do at home?” Our first suggestion is read, read, read. Read to your child, with your child, and in front of your child. Make trips to the library and bookstore. Get caught reading the paper, books, magazines, and manuals for work, or instructions for tools and appliances. Share with your child the idea that reading has many purposes including fun and information. |
| There are many great web sites related to reading. We have listed a few of them below. (Title of each category is a link to the page.) |
|
| Book Adventures Find books that match your child’s interests and reading level. |
Enchanted Learning Surf this site’s picture dictionaries and information sites. |
| Look, Cover, Write, Check Make spelling practice fun. Play games with words or have kids add their own words. | Poetry for Kids Poetry is fun! Inspire children to write and publish their own poems. |
| Poetry Scramble Play games with your favorite poems. | Starfall One of the best beginning reading sites for young kids. Practice phonics and explore stories. |
