| Second graders visit the Media center once a week and are allowed to check out two books each time. Their books are due the following week. Any book that they have not finished reading can be renewed.
We try to encourage them to select longer fiction chapter book selections and any non-fiction titles that they may find interesting. |

During second grade we start to explore many different types of books. Included are: folktales from around the world, more complex picture books, and non-fiction selections. |

During the second half of the year we learn the Dewey decimal system and read non-fiction from each specific section. By exposing the students to each area of the media center, interest levels will broaden to include areas not yet explored. |

Students will be learning how to use the automated catalog to find selections on our own. |
