Fourth graders come to the library every other week as a class to exchange books.  They are also allowed to visit whenever they need a new book.  The on-line catalog- “Destiny” is reviewed so that they can find books independently.  We will be investigating reference books to complete research later in the year.

The “Nutmeg” books are stressed for fourth graders. Great fiction works selected by teachers and librarians throughout Connecticut can be found here. The 10 books for this year are pictured here. For more information about the current selections: Click Here

The Newbery medal is awarded by the American Library Association and is a good source for great fiction selections. To Go to the Newbery Medal Award Page: Click Here

There is a fourth grade exploratory class held in the library every Thursday.  The students who are not in the chorus/band program can choose a fun activity each semester.  This semester we are making our own children’s books.  The ten students are able to create, on the computer, books that will become part of our library collection.  Some of the completed titles so far are-

“Snail from the Black Lagoon”, “Chads First Day of School”,

“Monkeys going Bananas”, “The Dragon”, “The Toad”, “Elf Team”, “Haunted House”, “Mutant Turtle Attack” and several ABC books.  These will appeal to younger students and can be enjoyed for years to come.
